TICFF 2026: call for sponsors
We are looking for companies and organisations who share what this festival is trying to do. For our fifth anniversary edition, partnership can also be linked to the anniversary programme, including the special screening of Cheech & Chong's Last Movie. There are five partnership tiers, and visibility and collaborative programming are designed individually around each partner's aims.

To mark five years of TICFF, we will present a special screening of Cheech & Chong's Last Movie. Looking back over the counterculture, music, comedy and freedom of expression of the 1970s and after, the programme opens a conversation between that history and Japan's own culture of the hemp plant and the city. Sunday 29 November 2026 at LOFT9 Shibuya, with a screening, talks, international dialogue and music.

Submissions for TICFF 2026 are now open. We welcome features (40 minutes and over), shorts (under 40 minutes), documentaries, experimental work and cultural records, whether or not they have been released. Any film for which you hold the copyright and screening rights is eligible. Please submit through FilmFreeway.

Cinema as a doorway to culture.
Purpose & Themes
“Cannabis” is the botanical name of the plant.
We named the festival the Tokyo International Cannabis Film Festival (TICFF) in the hope that anyone in the world who cares about this plant can take part, whatever brought them to it.
Through films and art that engage with cannabis, TICFF exists to offer a place where people can talk to one another.
Valuing the diversity that grows around the plant
Cannabis has many uses — industrial, medicinal, and as a means of altering consciousness — and a wide range of communities has formed around them.
Because the plant is legally restricted, those communities rarely come to understand one another.
TICFF works toward a society in which the diversity born of this plant can be understood across those divides.
Looking at the world outside us and the one within
Environment means both the natural world around us and the inner environment of body and mind. Cannabis has the capacity to improve both.
TICFF looks at how this plant can serve those environments, outer and inner alike.

The Audience Award runs online and is open to the Official Selections. Sign in with the participant ID issued when you register, watch the films and cast your vote — as a viewer, you are one of the judges.
Voting closes on 20 March 2027 and the result is announced at the end of March 2027. Voting stays open through the TICFF caravan screenings that follow the Tokyo main festival on 29 November. We will announce when registration opens here and on our official social accounts.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the Tokyo International Cannabis Film Festival?
TICFF is an international film festival that uses cinema as a way into the culture surrounding cannabis — a Cannabis Culture Forum that moves across medicine, history, art, music, spirituality, local culture and public dialogue. It has been held in Tokyo since 2022, and 2026 marks its fifth edition and fifth anniversary.
- When and where does TICFF 2026 take place?
Sunday 29 November 2026 at LOFT9 Shibuya in Tokyo (KINOHAUS 1F, 1-5 Maruyamacho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0044). The 5th anniversary special screening takes place the same day at the same venue.
- How do I submit a film?
Submissions are accepted through the official TICFF page on FilmFreeway. TICFF holds Gold Festival status on the platform, and received 61 submissions across its second through fourth editions.
- How do I get a ticket?
Ticketing for the Tokyo main festival on 29 November 2026 at LOFT9 Shibuya is still being arranged; we will announce the on-sale date here in the news section and on our official social accounts. Online viewing and the Audience Award are a separate registration.
- Can I watch the films online?
Registered participants can watch the Official Selections online for a limited period and vote for the Audience Award. Registration is required; you sign in with the participant ID (reference number) issued to you and the passphrase. As a rule, one person has one vote.
- How are the award winners decided?
The festival's selection team first chooses the Official Selections from the submissions, and the jury then judges those films on five criteria. Scores carry real weight, but no award is determined automatically by ranking: each is settled in a final deliberation that also weighs the jurors' recommendations and comments. A feature is 40 minutes or more including credits; a short is under 40 minutes.
- When does Audience Award voting close?
Viewing and voting open around 15 November 2026, voting closes on 20 March 2027, and the result is announced at the end of March 2027. Voting also stays open through the TICFF caravan screenings planned after the Tokyo main festival on 29 November 2026.
- How can we sponsor the festival?
There are five partnership tiers, from Community Supporter (¥50,000 and up) to Title Partner (¥1,000,000 and up). Visibility and collaborative programming are designed individually around each company's aims, so please start by getting in touch through the contact form.
